Mango Salsa: Not Just a Taco Topping!
I don’t know what you have planned for #tacotuesday or if you even “celebrate,” but either way, this mango salsa is a good idea. Of course you can also skip the tacos all together and serve it as an appetizer with some Siete chips or pile it on top of grilled fish or chicken and you’ll be set.
Nourishing Ingredients
You can feel good about every single ingredient in this recipe! They each add flavor and health-promoting plant compounds.
I initially made it because my daughter loves mango and then realized it helped her get a dose of plant superfoods that she wouldn’t normally eat (i.e. raw onion, cilantro, jalapeno) and it’s actually helped me get more fruit into my diet. Win-win! Check out the links below for more nutrition info, but in short, this recipe is loaded with antioxidants and health-promoting nutrients that are also believed to support heart health, digestion and immunity:
Hope you give this recipe a try! Please drop me a comment to let me know what you think!

Easy Mango Salsa
- Prep Time: 15
- Total Time: 15
- Yield: 2 cups 1x
- Category: Topping
- Cuisine: Caribbean
Description
This salsa is such a tasty and versatile topping. Yes, it’s great with chips or tacos, but it’s also delicious with simple grilled chicken or fish.
Mango Salsa also happens to be a nutrition supercombo of antioxidants, detoxifying cilantro, immune boosting mango, cancer-fighting capsaicin from the jalapeno, vitamins and minerals.
Ingredients
- 1/2 of a mango, diced
- 1/2 of a sweet onion, diced (sub red onion if you prefer, but the flavor will be less mild)
- 1 large tomato (or roughly equal parts mango and tomato), diced
- A few pinches of salt
- Juice of 1/2 a lime
- 1/2 a bunch of cilantro, finely chopped
- Minced jalapeno to taste
Instructions
Combine all ingredients. Adjust lime, cilantro and jalapeno to taste if necessary.
Notes
Mango skin is edible! And good for you! I only learned this recently and I have to tell you that it makes prepping this salsa recipe a lot easier. Like with all fruit, the skin contains beneficial vitamins and minerals, but it can also retain pesticide residue. Wash well (my all-purpose Branch Basics* spray is what I use on produce) and opt for organic if you eat the skin.
Chop instead of dice if you’re using this as a topping for grilled fish or chicken. I like a smaller chop or dice for tacos and as a dip with chips.
